The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly criticized Governor Seyi Makinde’s decision to spend N63.5 billion on renovating the Agodi Government House, calling it wasteful and insensitive.
The APC argued that the proposed expenditure reflects a level of profligacy and disregard for the economic realities facing the state.
According to the APC, Makinde’s administration is accused of financial recklessness, wasting public funds on white elephant projects, with the government house renovation being a prime example.
The party noted that the amount budgeted for the renovation exceeds the allocation to the health sector in the state’s 2025 budget.
The APC also said that the state has more pressing developmental issues that require attention, rather than lavish spending on government house renovations.
They pointed out that the government house was last refurbished in 2017 by the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi and remains in good condition.
Furthermore, the APC raised concerns over alleged contract splitting in the airport upgrade project.
The party stated that the government had earlier committed N10 billion, only to now approve additional N14.3 billion without transparency.
The APC has advised Governor Makinde to immediately rescind the renovation plan and redirect the funds to critical sectors like education, healthcare, and infrastructure, which are in dire need of attention.
The party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, described the approved renovation project as wasteful, insensitive, and a gross misplacement of priorities.
