In a rescue operation, 27-year-old Aliyu Salisu, a citizen of Niger Republic, was pulled alive from the rubble of a collapsed three-storey building in Abuja’s Lifecamp area on Sunday morning. The collapse occurred Saturday evening, trapping Salisu under debris for nearly 10 hours.

Josephine Adeh, spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, confirmed the successful rescue in a statement, saying, “The rescue teams worked tirelessly to extricate Aliyu Salisu from the rubble, and their efforts paid off at about 4am on Sunday.” The operation began after a distress call was received around 6:15pm on Saturday, prompting a swift response from a multi-agency team led by the Lifecamp Divisional Police Officer. The area was cordoned off, and emergency response efforts were immediately initiated.

FCT Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, who oversaw the operation, praised the collaborative effort, stating, “We commend the swift response of the various agencies and volunteers who worked together to rescue Aliyu.” Salisu is now receiving treatment at Cedar Crest Hospital in Gudu and is reportedly responding well.

Commissioner Adewale also called on residents to stay vigilant and report emergencies promptly, emphasizing, “We urge residents to be proactive in reporting emergencies. Our control room lines are active round-the-clock, and we are committed to responding swiftly to distress calls.” The incident underscores the importance of rapid response and community alertness in ensuring public safety during emergencies.
