Mallam AbdulSalam AbdulRazaq, chairman, New Nigerian People’s Party, NNPP, Kwara State chapter and the party’s governorship candidate, Prof Shuaibu Oba appears to have gone their seperate ways after losing the election.
The friction became manifest after the party distanced itself from a recent appointment of aides made by Governor Abdulrahaman Abdulrazak, stating that those favoured were never party men but those loyal to NNPP’s governorship candidate, Prof Shuaibu Oba Abdulraheem.
As part of reconciliatory moves, the governor had agreed to incorporate members of the opposition into his government especially in the appointment of aides.
But too soon, this gestures appears to have created another ripple of dissent that may snowball into full blown opposition in the state in the days ahead.
The party said the appointment were not routed through the party so there was no nomination or input from the party members and Executives.
The state leaders of the party insisted that that the persons who benefited from the appointment are ‘Talban group’ members, a caucus within the party loyal to the governorship candidate.
“The party noted that moves by the former gubernatorial candidate of the party was a man arrangement and not in the interest of the party,” NNPP stated in terse release signed by its chairman.
The party added that in the built up to the just concluded general election, there were negotiations from different contestants and parties to join forces with them which the party turned down as it has a focus.
“NNPP in Kwara is not collapsing it structures with APC or any political party we remain focus and also calling on Governor Abdulraham to lift bans on local government elections as soon as possible as NNPP is fully prepared to fill candidates all 16 local government of the state,” the party chairman added.
