The Association of Table Waters Producers (ATWAP) has issued a warning that the price of pure water may skyrocket to N100 per sachet due to escalating production costs.

The association made this known during a press conference held on Wednesday, February 28 in Lagos.

They furthered by highlighting challenges such as the soaring cost of diesel, power shortages, and increased production expenses.

According to them, delivering quality drinking water to consumers now requires higher expenditures due to the prevailing economic conditions.

A representative stated, “Pure water is currently sold for N50 per sachet, but it may soon rise to N100. We are compelled to adjust prices due to the exorbitant production costs.”

They elaborated on the significant cost surge in production materials, citing an example of nylon prices soaring from N1,100 to N3,600/N3,700 per kilogram within a short span. Additionally, they highlighted the substantial rise in treatment expenses.

Expressing concern for consumers’ affordability, the representative emphasized the burden faced by water producers, who often finance operations from personal funds or loans.

The association, despite the challenges, urged Nigerians to bear with them, striving to keep the price below N20 per sachet. They noted the adverse impact of production costs, including diesel prices, on their operations.
