Former Rivers State Governor and former All Progressive Congress, APC’s Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi has strongly condemned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s suspension of elected officials in Rivers State, calling it “undemocratic” and “unconstitutional”.

Amaechi argued that the President’s actions have technically suspended democracy in Rivers State, violating the Nigerian Constitution, which he swore to uphold.

Amaechi specifically pointed out that Section 188 of the Nigerian Constitution outlines the process for removing a State Governor, which does not include a presidential fiat declaration.

He stated that a democratically elected State Governor cannot be removed by a presidential proclamation.

The former Governor viewed the suspension as a power grab by forces and individuals without constitutional powers.

He urged politicians, state governors, and legislators to speak out against this “audacious violation” of the Constitution and democracy.

Amaechi also called on the National Assembly to reject the suspension, stressing that it’s a dangerous affront to Nigeria’s Constitution and democracy.
