Cross River Government Calls Emergency Meeting On Bekwarra Local Government Crisis

CROSS RIVER, CALABAR – In a decisive move to address pressing issues in Bekwarra Local Government Area, the Cross River State Government has summoned key stakeholders to an emergency meeting.

 

Acting Governor Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, PhD, has directed that political and administrative leaders gather at the Glass House, Governor’s Office, Calabar, on Monday, March 24, 2025, at 10:00 AM.

 

Erasmus Ekpang, Ph.D., Commissioner for Information, made the announcement on Wednesday, stating that the meeting is crucial for discussing recent developments in the local government.

 

He emphasized that attendance is mandatory for all invited parties.

 

Among those expected at the meeting are the State Chairman and Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Affairs, the Executive Chairman of Bekwarra Local Government, and all serving ward councilors in the area.

Ekpang underscored the importance of maintaining stability, revealing that “His Excellency, the Acting Governor, has directed that the status quo before the current crisis should remain.”

 

The directive suggests that the government seeks to prevent further escalations while addressing the root causes of the situation.

 

The meeting is expected to set the stage for resolving governance and political concerns in Bekwarra, a local government recently embroiled in tensions.
