Akwa Ibom Governor Approves Key Projects, Hosts Muslim Community For Iftar

NIGERIA, UYO – Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, has approved major developmental initiatives and reaffirmed his commitment to inclusivity and peaceful coexistence.

During an Executive Council meeting, Governor Eno, alongside Deputy Governor Sen. Akon Eyakenyi, top government officials, and commissioners, deliberated on key policies aimed at improving governance and public welfare.

“We reached key resolutions aimed at enhancing governance and improving the lives of Akwa Ibom people,” Eno stated.

Among the approved initiatives is a modern City Bus transportation system for Uyo, designed to provide safe, eco-friendly transit and boost economic growth.

The government also sanctioned a complete renovation of Ibom Hotels and Golf Resort to restore its international appeal.

To maintain high standards at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, the Executive Council extended Julius Berger’s contract for its upkeep.

Additionally, an inter-ministerial committee was tasked with reviewing the Eket International Market project and submitting a report within a month.

Other resolutions include the commencement of a pensioners’ verification exercise on April 1, 2025, to ensure seamless payments and a reaffirmation of the ban on motorcycles in Uyo metropolis for security reasons.

Governor Eno also acknowledged the upcoming Niger Delta Sports Festival, appreciating the NDDC for hosting the event in Akwa Ibom.

Later in the week, the governor hosted the Muslim community for Iftar at the Hilltop Mansion in Uyo.

He emphasized the importance of religious harmony, acknowledging their role in resolving conflicts between herdsmen and farmers.

“My relationship with the Muslim community goes beyond governance—I grew up in the barracks, where I learned to see people for who they are,” he said.

As part of his inclusivity agenda, he directed the Muslim community to submit seven names, including two indigenes, for the reconstitution of the State’s Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board.

Governor Eno reaffirmed his commitment to policies that foster unity and development, urging citizens to work together for a better Akwa Ibom.
