The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced Egypt as the new host of the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) after Cote d’Ivoire pulled out just a month before the tournament.

Originally scheduled to take place in Cote d’Ivoire from April 26 to May 18, the competition has now been moved to Egypt, with a revised start date of April 27. CAF stated that the Ivorians withdrew due to “unforeseen circumstances” but did not provide further details.

Egypt, which hosted the previous edition of the tournament, will now take up the responsibility again. The competition will see Nigeria’s Flying Eagles placed in Group B alongside the new hosts, as well as Morocco and South Africa.

The tournament format remains unchanged, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the knockout rounds, while the best two third-placed teams will also secure quarter-final spots. The four semi-finalists will automatically qualify for the 2025 U-20 World Cup in Chile.
