Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Umar Damagum, has described the mass defection of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and other party leaders to the All Progressives Congress as painful and disappointing.
Damagum noted that the defection is particularly sad given the level of support the PDP gave to Delta State in previous elections.
Damagum added that the party’s magnanimity towards Delta State makes the defection even more unexpected.
He, however, assured that the PDP leadership is taking steps to set up a caretaker committee for the party in Delta State and plans to take over party structures immediately.
Damagum emphasized that the 2027 election will be about Nigerians, not just the number of governors a party has.
He urged party members to close ranks and work towards rescuing Nigeria, stressing that no challenge is insurmountable.
Damagum also congratulated Jude Ezenwafor on emerging as the party’s candidate in Anambra and expressed confidence in the party’s victory in the election.
