Aliko Dangote, Africa’s richest man and president of Dangote Refinery, asserts that certain groups in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector are sabotaging his $20 billion refinery.

These groups, who profited from government-subsidized oil imports, are resisting the refinery’s operations and opposing the removal of petrol subsidies by President Bola Tinubu’s government.

Dangote remains confident of success, stating, “We’re fighting, and the fight is not yet finished, but I’m 100 percent sure I’ll win at the end of the day.”

The refinery began selling petrol in September 2024, resulting in a significant decrease in fuel imports into Nigeria.

President Tinubu announced the removal of fuel subsidies in May 2023, a move Dangote’s refinery is expected to benefit from.
