Human rights activist and convener of Concerned Nigerians, Deji Adeyanju, has criticized renowned human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) for his silence over the arrest of controversial social media personality, VeryDarkMan (VDM).
In a post shared on his Facebook page, Adeyanju expressed disappointment at what he described as a lack of consistency and selective advocacy by Falana, who has long been regarded as a voice for the oppressed and a defender of civil liberties.
“Our revered leader and mentor, Femi Falana SAN yet to condemn the arrest of VDM. Interesting times indeed! When the boy that led people to attack me under Buhari became a victim under the same Buhari and was arrested, I was the first person to condemn it,” Adeyanju wrote, referencing his own history of defending opponents and critics even when they had wronged him.
The post has since sparked mixed reactions online, with many weighing in on the role of senior advocates and civil society leaders in addressing freedom of expression and political dissent, particularly in the digital age. As of the time of filing this report, Falana has not issued any public statement regarding VDM’s arrest.
