PORT HARCOURT, RIVERS STATE – Suspended Rivers State Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara has described the late elder statesman, Pa Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, as a relentless advocate for justice, equity, and national unity.

In a tribute posted Sunday night on his official Facebook page, Fubara joined other mourners in eulogizing the South-South leader, who passed away recently.

According to Fubara, the night of remembrance was an emotional moment to honor a man whose “indefatigable struggle for justice, equity and fairness” extended beyond the Niger Delta to the broader Nigerian landscape.

Recognizing a Nationalist’s Legacy

Fubara praised Clark for living “a just life of truth and compassion,” describing him as “a voice for the voiceless.” He said the late leader’s legacy remains a moral compass in the fight for equal rights in Nigeria.

A Platform to Restate Political Ideals

Using the occasion to reflect on Rivers State’s current political climate, Fubara emphasized that his administration, though embattled, remains focused on peace. “We are not desperate to cling to position,” he stated, “but determined in our quest for a better Rivers State.”

Appeal for Restraint Amidst Political Tension

Fubara further urged residents and supporters to maintain calm. “We urged our people to exercise restraint in all they do,” he noted, adding that progress in Rivers must be built on stability and unity, not confrontation.

Context and Ethical Balance

Fubara’s comments come amid ongoing political strife in the state, following his suspension and disputes with factions in the Rivers State House of Assembly.

While not addressing the crisis directly, his call for restraint may be seen as an attempt to de-escalate tensions.

His remarks, posted on a public platform, reflect both his personal convictions and a strategic appeal to public conscience.
