The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the appointment of former Governor of Edo State, Chief Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion, as a Member of the party’s prestigious Board of Trustees (BOT), further cementing his legacy as a longstanding pillar of the PDP and a formidable voice in Nigerian politics.
Truth Live News gathered that the August appointment was officially conveyed via a letter dated Friday, May 9, 2025, and signed by the Secretary of the Board of Trustees, H.E Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, CON, FCNA. The nomination is pursuant to Section 32(1)(g) of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017), which allows each State Caucus to nominate one individual who has significantly contributed to the growth of the party.
According to the letter, Chief Igbinedion’s first tenure on the BOT will span three years, beginning on May 12, 2025, and ending on May 11, 2028. The tenure is renewable once, in line with Section 32(4) of the party’s constitution.

“This nomination recognizes your invaluable contribution to the progress and resilience of our great party over the years,” the letter stated, urging Igbinedion to justify the confidence reposed in him by the party’s leadership and the Board of Trustees through distinguished service.
Chief Igbinedion, who served as Governor of Edo State from 1999 to 2007, is widely credited with expanding the PDP’s footprint in the South-South and remains a towering figure in both regional and national political circles. His inclusion on the BOT is seen by many analysts as a strategic move by the PDP to consolidate experienced leadership ahead of critical political realignments in the lead-up to 2027.
The PDP Board of Trustees, often described as the conscience of the party, plays a pivotal advisory and stabilizing role, particularly during transitions and disputes. Igbinedion’s presence on the board is expected to bring both political depth and institutional memory to ongoing party reforms.
Chief Lucky Igbinedion’s appointment to the PDP Board of Trustees marks a return of experienced leadership to the party’s top advisory body. With his strong political pedigree and regional influence, the former Edo Governor is expected to play a vital role in guiding the party through its next phase of political strategy and consolidation.
