Itsekiri youths staged a violent protest at Okumagba Estate in Okere-Urhobo land, Delta State, over the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) ward delineation, threatening war with their Ijaw and Urhobo neighbours if INEC doesn’t rescind its decision.
The protesting youths bore placards with inscriptions like “INEC Stop the Disenfranchisement,” “Our Wards, Our Voice,” and “Justice for Itsekiri People,” alleging that the ward delineation exercise was manipulated to marginalize the Itsekiri ethnic group.
Truth Live News learnt that during the protest, the Itsekiri youths attacked people, destroyed vehicles, and injured others at a business premises in NPA and Okere-Urhobo land, prompting concerns about potential violence.
In response, Comrade Austin Ozobo, National President of Ijaw People’s Development Initiative (IPDI), urged the Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi, to investigate the incident and bring the erring youths to justice.
