The emerging coalition of opposition forces seeking to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general election has firmly denied claims that it has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its official political platform.

Truth Live News gathered that the coalition, spearheaded by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, includes leading figures from various opposition parties and disaffected members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Its goal is to present a united political front capable of unseating the APC government in the next election cycle.

Contrary to reports circulating in the media, the coalition also refuted claims that it has appointed former APC National Vice Chairman (North-West), Salihu Lukman, as the Head of its Secretariat.

Lukman, who currently serves as the coalition’s interim spokesperson, issued a statement on Thursday in Abuja dismissing the reports as “completely false.”

“The public should disregard the story, as it is completely false. No such decision has been taken,” Lukman said.
“Also false is the report that the coalition has adopted the ADC at its meeting of Tuesday, May 20, 2025.”

Lukman clarified that while deliberations among coalition leaders are ongoing, no final decision has been made regarding the choice of a political party to carry the coalition’s banner into the 2027 elections.

“Negotiations among all the coalition leaders are progressing very well, and final decisions about the political platform for the 2027 election will be taken soon,” he added.

He further cautioned against attempts to destabilize the coalition through misinformation, suggesting that the recent reports may have been engineered by political saboteurs.

“Unfortunately, there appear to be some mischief makers promoting and planting stories in the media with the clear aim of sowing seeds of discord among coalition leaders.
The public and the media should please disregard all these mischievous stories.”

The denial comes amid rising anticipation about the shape and direction of opposition unity ahead of the 2027 general election. With Nigeria’s political landscape already heating up, analysts say any successful coalition would need clarity, coherence, and consensus to pose a real challenge to the incumbent administration.
