UYO, NIGERIA – Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, has called on the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) to project Nigeria’s positive stories to the world.

According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ekerete Udoh, the Governor made this charge while hosting the NIPR President, Dr. Ike Neliaku, and Council Members at a luncheon in Government House, Uyo.

“The NIPR is expected to help build our national and sub-national brand,” Governor Eno said. “We must tell our stories in a way that attracts investors.”

He expressed concern over the predominance of negative narratives in the media. “In Nigeria, ‘breaking news’ often means bad news. We must change that,” he noted.

Eno urged both public relations professionals and media practitioners to promote development-focused stories and encourage leaders. “Support and polite correction inspire better leadership,” he said.

The Governor also highlighted major projects in Akwa Ibom’s tourism sector, including Ibom Air and the Ikot Abasi heritage development. “In two years, visitors will have a variety of historical and cultural sites to explore,” he added.

He assured the NIPR of his administration’s commitment to a lasting partnership that will enhance professional storytelling. “You are welcome to help us tell our story beyond what we can,” he told the council.

Dr. Neliaku commended the Governor’s grassroots development strategy and praised the ARISE Agenda as a sound and citizen-focused blueprint.

“We’ll help spotlight your exceptional progress within and beyond Nigeria,” the NIPR President said.

The event was attended by top state officials, including the Secretary to the State Government and members of the NIPR council.
