The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, has given each of the state’s 3,200 pilgrims the sum of 1,000 Saudi Riyals (approximately ₦450,000) as a Sallah gift.
Governor Aliyu announced the gesture during a visit to the Sokoto State pilgrims in Mina, Saudi Arabia, as they prepared to conclude their Hajj pilgrimage and return home.
He said the financial support was meant to assist the pilgrims as they wrapped up their spiritual journey and prepared for their journey back to Nigeria.
“I am proud of your conduct during the Hajj,” the governor said, noting that no pilgrim from the state was found to have violated Saudi Arabian laws.
He praised the pilgrims for representing Sokoto State well, describing them as “good ambassadors” and commended their maturity and responsibility throughout the pilgrimage.
Governor Aliyu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of the people of Sokoto, both at home and abroad.
The governor took the opportunity to appreciate the leadership of the Sokoto State Hajj team, especially the Amirul Hajj, Alhaji Ummarun Kwabo, for ensuring a smooth and successful pilgrimage. He also lauded the Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency for its efforts.
In his remarks, the governor urged the pilgrims to pray for peace and security in Nigeria, saying that “no matter the efforts by government, prayer remains the strongest tool to tackle insecurity.”
He also expressed condolences to pilgrims from Gudu and Shagari local government areas following the deaths of two individuals, Hajiya Hadiza and Bala Jangebe, during the pilgrimage. He prayed for God’s forgiveness and comfort for their families.
Earlier, the Amirul Hajj, Alhaji Kwabo, thanked the governor for his support, which he said played a major role in the success of the pilgrimage.
