PORT HARCOURT – Suspended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has restated his commitment to sustaining peace by acknowledging former Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, as a unifying force in the state.

Fubara, who attended the funeral of Wike’s cousin, Elder Temple Omezurike Onuoha, in Rumueprikom, appeared alongside Wike in a symbolic gesture many believe signals political submission and reconciliation.

“We have achieved peace, and it is here to stay,” Fubara told supporters after the service, reinforcing his earlier moves to mend ties with Wike amid their lingering political feud.

The suspended governor’s presence at the event, shared on his verified social media handle, is being interpreted by observers as a clear attempt to end months of hostilities between both camps.

“I assured all Rivers people that our focus is unity. We must move beyond differences to build a stronger state,” Fubara declared, emphasizing that the recent crisis must not define the future.

Although Fubara did not directly acknowledge Wike’s political influence, his conciliatory tone and visible alliance at the burial signal a willingness to yield ground for stability.

The show of deference has sparked mixed reactions, with some supporters calling it “a mature move for peace,” while critics argue it erodes democratic resistance and weakens institutional independence.

Still, Fubara’s public narrative insists the decision is rooted in the best interest of Rivers people, even if it means appearing to give in to his political rival’s dominance.

As at the time of this report, Wike did not issue a statement in respect to the peace pact,  but his body language and acceptance of Fubara’s presence suggest a temporary truce may be in effect at least on the surface.

As Rivers State walks a tightrope between unity and political control, Fubara’s message is clear: “Peace is the path forward, and I’m committed to it—no matter the cost.”
