Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has selected his Deputy Chief of Staff, Hon. Folajimi Oyekunle, as the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the upcoming Ibadan North federal constituency bye-election.
Truth Live News gathered that Oyekunle emerged as the consensus candidate after deliberations among party stakeholders, including former Deputy Governor Barrister Hazeem Gbolarumi, Senior Executive Assistant Chief Bayo Lawal, and Oyo State PDP Party Secretary Alhaji Wasiu Adeleke.
Other aspirants who stepped down for Oyekunle include Hon. Adeyinka Adeniyi Bibire, Olanrewaju Sarumi, Hon. Waheed Adeniyi Akanbi (popularly known as Biiro), and Taiwo Salami.
To maintain party unity, Governor Makinde has reportedly compensated the other aspirants with strategic appointments, including:
Hon. Adeyinka Adeniyi Bibire: Set to replace Oyekunle as Deputy Chief of Staff
Taiwo Salami: To be announced as Chairman of the Oyo State Sports Council
Hon. Waheed Adeniyi Akanbi Biiro: To serve as Chairman of the Oyo State Waste Management Authority
The Ibadan North federal constituency bye-election is scheduled to hold on August 16, 2025, following the death of the seat’s previous occupant, Musiliudeen Akinremi Olaide, in July 2024.
