Ahead of the forthcoming Edo Central senatorial by-election, renowned Esan socio-political advocate and international political strategist, Deacon Darlington Okpebholo-Ray, has urged the people of Esan to elect a senator who will work hand-in-hand with Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo to drive the development of the senatorial zone.

Speaking in an exclusive chat with Truth Live News from London on Saturday, Okpebholo-Ray, a respected media PR consultant and voice for the Esan people, stressed that the moment demands a shift from partisan politics to a united focus on the progress of Esanland, which he says has been “deprived for over 18 years.”

“To develop Esan, we need synergy with the Governor, who is our own,” Okpebholo-Ray declared. “This is not about politics. It is about the soul of our land. We need a senator who will collaborate with Governor Okpebholo to fast-track infrastructure, improve institutions, and lift our people out of hardship.”

He noted that nearly a year since Senator Monday Okpebholo became governor, the senatorial seat he vacated has become a defining political opportunity — one that must not be wasted.

“The development of Edo Central should be a paramount concern for every Esan-born citizen. We cannot afford disunity or misalignment at this crucial juncture. The next senator must share and support the governor’s vision for a prosperous and united Edo State,” he added.

Calling on voters to look beyond party lines, Okpebholo-Ray challenged the electorate to scrutinize all candidates — whether from the PDP, APC, LP, ADC, or other parties — and choose a selfless, capable, and people-driven leader.

“My position is clear: I owe no allegiance to any political party. I have chosen to be apolitical because my only loyalty is to the development of Edo Central. We must stop rewarding mediocrity and start electing representatives who genuinely care,” he said.

Lamenting the decades-long neglect of Esan communities, he decried the culture of “celebrating empty promises” while the masses languish in poverty and insecurity.

“Too many individuals have been enriching themselves while the people suffer. It’s time we elected a senator who prioritizes collective progress over personal gain — someone bold enough to fight for the real needs of Esan people,” Okpebholo-Ray said firmly.

As the by-election draws nearer, the media guru urged Esan indigenes both at home and in the diaspora to rally around a new kind of leadership — one built on integrity, vision, and a shared commitment to rebuild Esan for future generations.

“This is not the time for emotional or partisan voting. It’s the time to choose Esan’s future over fleeting political interests. Our destiny is in our hands,” he concluded.
