Gunmen Shoot Man Dead Inside Church in Akwa Ibom

Unknown Gunmen have fatally shot 45-year-old Udeme Sunday Uko while he slept alongside his family inside the Apostolic Church District Headquarters in Ikot Oku Usung Village, Ukanafun Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.

The attack occurred in the early hours of Monday, leaving the community in mourning and authorities scrambling to uncover the motive behind the brutal killing.

According to police sources, the victim’s wife, Mrs. Mfon Udeme Sunday, promptly alerted the Central Youth Chairman of Ukanafun, Mr. Godwin Emekan Ben, who reported the incident to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO). “Mrs. Mfon Udeme Sunday was said to have alerted the Central Youth Chairman of Ukanafun, Mr. Godwin Emekan Ben, who in turn reported the matter to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO),” a police statement confirmed.

Responding swiftly, police detectives visited the crime scene, where they recovered a locally made pistol and an expended cartridge. The evidence is now under examination as part of a discreet investigation aimed at apprehending the perpetrators. The victim’s body has been deposited at Iniowo Mortuary for an autopsy to aid the ongoing probe.

The police have urged anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing their commitment to resolving the case. For now, the community mourns the loss of a man taken too soon in a place meant for solace and sanctuary.
