The Nigerian troops under Operation Hadin Kai haved killed a top commander of the dangerous terrorist group, Abu Nasr, also known as Amir Fiya, during a fierce battle in Rann, Kala Balge Local Government Area of Borno State, on August 7–8, 2025.
The operation, supported by air forces, thwarted an attempted terrorist infiltration from neighboring Cameroon.
Abu Nasr, who led the attack, was among several insurgents neutralized, with seven bodies recovered and blood trails indicating further casualties.
The clash, which lasted from Thursday night to Friday morning, saw troops recover AK-47 rifles, magazines, rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), and other explosive ordnance.
Tragically, two soldiers lost their lives when an RPG hit their vehicle. The military’s swift response and superior firepower underscored their commitment to curbing insurgency in Nigeria’s northeast, a region plagued by Boko Haram’s violence since 2009.
Rann, located 196.8 km from Maiduguri and near the Cameroon border, has been a frequent target for Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of Operation Hadin Kai to dismantle terrorist networks.
Local sources and security operatives confirmed the high morale of the troops, who continued combing the area for remaining insurgents.
While this victory marks a setback for Boko Haram, the group remains a persistent threat.
