In a significant victory for Operation FANSAN YANMA, sustained air operations by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) compelled bandits to release 70 kidnapped victims in Zamfara State.

The hostages were freed following intense military pressure in Bukuyum Local Government Area, where over 150 armed bandits had stormed multiple villages on Thursday.

The affected communities included Ruwan Jema, Yashi, Gasa Hula, Kurfan Danya, Rafin Maiki, Ruwa Rana, and Barikin Daji.

According to sources, the bandits, heavily armed, initially demanded substantial ransoms and attempted to flee with the captives. However, rapid deployment of ground and air assets disrupted their plans.

“On sighting NAF aircraft, the bandits became disoriented. They released the victims into the surrounding bushes and attempted to escape on motorcycles. Six women managed to escape that same day,” a source confirmed on Saturday. The relentless bombardment in the area ultimately forced the bandits to free all remaining hostages.

This operation follows a recent NAF success, where strikes on bandits’ strongholds in Gyado forest eliminated over 100 fighters, including key commanders, just a week prior.

The release of the 70 victims marks a significant step in restoring security to Zamfara’s beleaguered communities, offering hope to residents plagued by persistent attacks.

Authorities continue to monitor the area to prevent further abductions and ensure the safe return of all affected individuals.
