Israel has made it clear that it will continue to pursue Hamas leaders across borders, despite growing international condemnation following Tuesday’s airstrike in Qatar that killed five Hamas members and a Qatari security officer.
The UN Security Council is set to convene later today in New York to deliberate on the incident, with Israel’s actions facing widespread criticism from countries around the world.
Ahead of the meeting, Israel’s ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, announced that Jerusalem would not scale back its campaign.
“I intend to make it absolutely clear to the Council: there will be no immunity for terrorists, not in Gaza, not in Lebanon, and not in Qatar.
“We will not back down and we will continue to act decisively against the leaders of terror wherever they are hiding,” Danon wrote on X.
Israel’s ambassador to Washington, Michael Leiter, reinforced the message, signaling that surviving Hamas officials remain targets.
“If we didn’t get them this time, we’ll get them next time,” Leiter said.
While brushing aside US criticism of the Doha strike, Leiter stressed that both countries remain aligned on the broader goal.
“Washington and Jerusalem are united in eliminating Hamas as a threat to peace in the Middle East.
“We have acted together in the past, and we will act together in the future,” he added.
