Former President Goodluck Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform, according to former Minister of Information and Orientation, Professor Jerry Gana.
Speaking after the PDP Niger State Congress in Minna on Saturday, September 27, 2025, Gana expressed confidence that Jonathan would reclaim the presidency and return to Aso Rock.
As reported by Vanguard, Gana highlighted growing public support for Jonathan’s comeback, citing dissatisfaction with subsequent administrations. “In 2015, former President Goodluck Jonathan said his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. After him, another President ruled for eight years, and now another has ruled for two years. Nigerians have seen the difference, and the difference is very clear. Nigerians are now asking us to bring back our friend, former President Goodluck Jonathan,” Gana stated.
He affirmed Jonathan’s candidacy, declaring, “I can confirm that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the presidential election in 2027 as PDP candidate, and we should be prepared to vote for him to return as President again.” Gana emphasized the PDP’s democratic credentials, describing it as “truly democratic and grassroots-oriented” and crediting its popularity to people-centered programs that allow Nigerians to freely choose their leaders.
The announcement has sparked speculation about the PDP’s strategy to leverage Jonathan’s past tenure to challenge the ruling party in 2027.
As the PDP gears up, Gana urged party members to rally behind Jonathan to secure victory.
