The Edo State Petroleum Task Force in Ikpoba-Okha Local Council sealed the NIPCO Filling Station on Upper Sakponba Road on Monday after discovering all its fire extinguishers had expired since 2024.
Ehichoya Joshua, leader of the task force, revealed that the station’s management had been repeatedly warned to replace the outdated equipment but failed to comply. “We came here this morning and found out that the fire extinguishers in this station have expired since 2024.
They have been begging and we have cautioned them on the need to replace them,” Joshua said. “It is disastrous not to have fire extinguishers in this facility that has close proximity to residential buildings. We are sealing the station until the right thing is done.”The station’s management declined to comment on the closure.
