The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled its former National Chairman, Shehu Gabam, National Youth Leader Ogbonna Chukwuma Uchechukwu, and several other top officials for alleged misconduct, financial misappropriation, and abuse of office.

The decision, effective October 23, 2025, was announced by National Publicity Secretary Rufus Aiyenigba following a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting that adopted the findings of the party’s Disciplinary Committee and a subsequent White Paper.

“The move followed the adoption of the report of the Disciplinary Committee and a subsequent White Paper which reviewed the findings and recommendations on the allegations brought against the affected officers,” Aiyenigba stated. He emphasized that the expulsions were necessary to “restore integrity, discipline, and internal order within the SDP.”

Other expelled members include Adamu Abubakar Modibbo, Abubakar Dogara, Nuraddeen Bisalla, Solsuema Osaro, Ambo Ekpeyong, Eluwa Ifeanyi Henry, Humphrey Unwukaeze, and Judith Israel Shuaibu, accused of disloyalty and unlawful entry into the party’s national secretariat.

Aiyenigba revealed that security operatives apprehended the expelled members with sensitive documents and valuables allegedly removed from the secretariat, and they are now facing criminal prosecution.

The NWC, in a unanimous decision, reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and constitutional order within the SDP.

Aiyenigba noted that additional administrative measures from the White Paper would be implemented to prevent future breaches. “The actions take immediate effect from Thursday, October 23, 2025,” he confirmed.

The SDP’s decisive action shows its resolve to uphold internal discipline and restore public confidence in the party’s leadership as it navigates ongoing challenges.
