The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a boxer, known as Bintin for beating a carpenter, simply identified as Yellow to death in the Ikorodu area of the state.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi said the boxer has been detained at the Agbowa police division.
She added that the case would soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba for proper investigation.
According to eyewitnesses, Yellow reportedly died after a scuffle with Bintin over a burst football on Saturday in the Adamo area of Ikorodu.
It was gathered that Yellow seized the ball belonging to Bintin’s son and burst it while the boxer was away.
Residents said the boxer’s wife called him on phone and informed him about the incident.
Upon arrival, Bintin confronted the boxer in the presence of the community leader, who waded in and directed Yellow to replace the damaged ball.
Witnesses said while Yellow was on his way to buy the ball, Bintin ran after him and dealt him a blow on his forehead.
The carpenter was said to have collapsed and was rushed to the Agbowa General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
