The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump has issued a stark warning on Friday, declaring Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC) due to what he called an “existential threat” to Christianity from radical Islamists slaughtering thousands of believers.

Trump issued this statement via his Truth Social media, he said, “Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a ‘COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN’ – But that is the least of it. When Christians, or any such group, is slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria (3,100 versus 4,476 Worldwide), something must be done! I am asking Congressman Riley Moore, together with Chairman Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee, to immediately look into this matter, and report back to me. The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other Countries. We stand ready, willing, and able to save our Great Christian population around the World!”
The CPC label, revived from Trump’s 2020 executive action—later reversed by the Biden administration—flags severe religious freedom violations under the International Religious Freedom Act, potentially triggering U.S. sanctions.
Nigeria tops global lists for Christian persecution, with Open Doors reporting it accounts for nearly 70% of worldwide faith-based murders—over 3,100 last year alone by groups like Boko Haram and Fulani militants.
Rep. Riley Moore (R-W.Va.), who urged the redesignation last month, praised Trump’s move as a “huge” step against “alarming” genocide.
House Appropriations Chairman Tom Cole (R-Okla.) was also tapped for a probe.
The announcement drew swift applause from advocates, with the New York Post’s editorial board recently echoing calls for action.
As global Christian deaths mount, Trump’s vow signals a renewed U.S. readiness to combat evil of Islamist terrorists across the world.
