Following the resignation of Uche Nnaji as Minister of Science, Innovation and Technology over alleged certificate forgery, President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to screen and confirm the Attorney–General and Commissioner of Justice in Enugu State, Dr Kingsley Tochukwu Udeh, in his place.

Recall that Nnaji resigned from office last month over an alleged certificate forgery.

The request was contained in a letter forwarded to the Senate and read in plenary by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

President Tinubu said the appointment was pursuant to section 147(2) of the 1999 constitution (as amended) and sought for expeditious consideration by the Senate.

The letter read: “In compliance with the provisions of section 147(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, I am pleased to forward to the Senate the nomination of Dr. Kingsley Tochukwu-Udeh for confirmation as minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “While I hope that this request will receive the usual expeditious consideration of the Senate, please accept, distinguished Senate President and distinguished Senators, the assurances of my highest regards.”

The Senate referred the request to its committee of the whole for immediate consideration.
