Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has directed the State’s Head of Service to review the cases of civil servants from Anambra and other South-East states who were disengaged in 2011 under the “Non-Indigene” policy.
Otti described the disengagement as illegal and pledged to address past wrong policies, focusing on finding a fair resolution for those affected.
The governor assured that individuals still within service age would be re-engaged after the review, while those above the age would receive compensation, highlighting a potential solution to the long-standing issue.
Noting the state’s teacher shortage, Otti expressed willingness to re-engage disengaged teachers on a contract basis if they are under 65, addressing both the shortage and the plight of affected workers.
Otti’s administration has already abolished the State of Origin dichotomy, promoting inclusivity and equality among residents, regardless of their state of origin.
When asked about potential future political aspirations, Otti stated he would retire from active politics after his second term, paving the way for younger generations to take the reins.
