The Cross River State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused members who defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of planning to destabilize the party.
The PDP’s State Chairman, Venatius Ikem, alleged that former PDP members who joined the ADC are now posing as party stakeholders to infiltrate and sow confusion within the PDP.
He described this as a deliberate act of sabotage aimed at weakening the party’s unity and organizational strength ahead of future elections.
Ikem expressed disappointment over conflicting statements from the party’s national headquarters, noting that instead of sanctioning those who defected to the ADC, some individuals are being rewarded with caretaker committee appointments.
“It is unfortunate and embarrassing to see conflicting statements coming from our national headquarters.
“Instead of sanctioning those who openly declared for the ADC, some people are rewarding them with caretaker committee appointments while casting doubts on the legitimacy of our peaceful and transparent state congress,” he said.
According to him, the recently concluded congress in Cross River was conducted in full compliance with the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended) and in line with the NWC’s guidelines.
He further stated that the newly elected state executive had already been inaugurated and had started performing its duties.
