NIGERIA, ABUJA – The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has appointed Senator Ben Ndi Obi as the new Secretary of its National Convention Organizing Committee.

According to Punch E-paper, the appointment follows the unexpected defection of Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, who formerly held the position, to the ruling All Progressives Congress on Tuesday.

In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, on Wednesday, the PDP urged members to remain united and focused on ensuring the success of its forthcoming National Convention.

Ologunagba disclosed that the National Working Committee, acting on behalf of the National Executive Committee, approved Obi’s appointment ahead of the elective convention slated for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

“The NWC commends the NCOC under the Chairmanship of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State for its tireless efforts toward ensuring the success of the 2025 National Convention,” the statement read in part.

The party also called for steadfastness among members, describing internal unity as vital to the PDP’s survival and resurgence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“The NWC calls on all leaders, critical stakeholders, and teeming members of the PDP to remain steadfast and focused on the successful conduct of the National Convention and the overall progress of our great party,” the statement added.

Analysts say the appointment signals the party’s resolve to stabilize its internal structures after a series of high-profile defections that have tested its unity.

With the convention drawing near, observers believe the PDP is working hard to prove it can recover lost ground and rebuild internal confidence.
