UYO – Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, has urged children across the state to embrace hard work and faith in God as essential principles for achieving greatness in life.
Governor Eno gave this charge while addressing pupils of Pegasus School, Eket, who visited Government House, Uyo, on an educational excursion.
He noted that though Wednesdays are traditionally reserved for State Executive Council meetings, he made time to meet with the young learners to inspire them toward a bright future.
Citing an example from history, the Governor recalled how a 16-year-old Bill Clinton, after meeting President John F. Kennedy in 1963, was inspired to pursue a career in public service—an aspiration that eventually led him to become the 42nd President of the United States in 1993.
Governor Eno emphasized that greatness is neither accidental nor automatic but is attained through diligence, hard work, and faith in God. He encouraged the children to take their studies seriously and maximize their opportunities.

N10 Million Support for Award-Winning Student
Commending Pegasus School for its reputation for academic excellence, the Governor celebrated the achievements of Henry Ndudu Ekong, a student of the school who recently won the Interswitch School Competition and was awarded a ₦15 million university scholarship.
In recognition of Ndudu’s outstanding performance, Governor Eno announced an additional ₦10 million support for his university education, underscoring his administration’s commitment to rewarding excellence and supporting young talents.
He further highlighted the state government’s investment in education, including the establishment of model primary schools and the forthcoming three model secondary schools equipped with state-of-the-art boarding facilities.
These projects, he said, are aimed at providing quality education and empowering Akwa Ibom children to achieve their dreams.
‘Being Governor is a Call to Service’
Responding to a pupil’s question on what it feels like to be a Governor, Pastor Eno described leadership as a call to service and responsibility.

Pegasus School Appreciates Governor
Earlier, Mrs. Uwem Ene, who led the visiting team, explained that the excursion was designed to give pupils a firsthand experience of governance, as part of their classroom learning on civil society.
She expressed gratitude to Governor Eno for hosting them and also appreciated the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, for guiding the pupils through various government facilities.
