Alleged Murder: I Never Intend To Kill My Girlfriend – Chinese Man Tells Court

A 47 year old Chinese man identified as Frank Geng-Quangrong has told a Kano High Court that he did not intend to harm his 22 year old Nigerian girlfriend identified as Ummukulsum Sani.

The defendant, is standing trial for the alleged murder of his girlfriend Ummukulsum.

Frank, led in evidence by his counsel, Muhammad Dan’azumi, said on Sept.15 and Sept.16, 2022, 48 hours before the incident Ummukulsum refused to pick his calls or respond to all his text messages because he could not afford to give her financial support.

He alleged that she is ill-tempered and gets angry easily stating that all her family members and friends know this.

He explained that when she picked the call she said he should send back her pet dog(Charlie)and ended the call noting that it was the reason he went to her house.

He further said he took the pet to her house and sent her a message through WhatsApp notifying her of his presence, but she said he was stupid.

He went on to explain that Ummukulsums sister opened the gate, came over to the car, picked the dog and went back in.

He said he was left outside for more than 30 minutes in the rain adding that he knocked on the door many times but nobody answered me.

He said after much persistence from him, Ummukulsum later opened the door for him and he went inside to pick up the dog .

He said on his way out she rushed out from the living room and locked the door to the house before the gate.

Frank said Ummukulsum was very angry, adding that she went in and brought out a knife and that he had to drop Charlie the dog because he was very scared.

He said he tried to hold her other hand to grab the knife from her stating that in the cause of the struggle, she bit him on his hand and finger.

He said he was able to get possession of the knife and refused to let go and that she used her other hand to grab his private part noting that he was in pain.

He explained that Ummukulsum pulled him inside the living room and slapped him adding that he didn’t know where and when he stabbed her noting that he realized that he may have stabbed her three days after the incident when another neighbour, Aminu told him.

He claim he felt so bad, sorrowful and cried bitterly when he had the news of her death.

The defence counsel tendered vital documents to the court.

The Prosecutor, Attorney General of Kano State, Musa Abdullahi-Lawan, alleged that the defendant on Sept.16, 2022 stabbed the deceased with a knife in her house at Janbulo quarters Kano for undisclosed reasons.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 221(b) of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Justice Sanusi Ado-Ma’aji, adjourned the matter until Feb.7 and Feb.8, for continuation of defense
