Former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has taken a swipe at Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, accusing him of disrespect and daring him to a public popularity test.

Amaechi questioned Wike’s loyalty and humility, claiming he mentored the FCT Minister politically.

“Let the Minister of the FCT come, let’s take a walk from the airport to Port Harcourt, no police, no army, nothing, just the two of us,” Amaechi challenged.

Amaechi expressed frustration over Wike’s alleged disrespect, saying, “I don’t know why he doesn’t respect people like us; I am older. I brought him up in politics. Who is he?”.

The former governor’s comments come amid a renewed rivalry between the two politicians, with Wike previously accusing Amaechi of being hungry for power, not food.

Amaechi has also confirmed his resignation from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stating he left the party on Tuesday and has since joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The feud between Amaechi and Wike dates back to 2012, when a political crisis broke out between them.

Amaechi, who served as governor of Rivers State from 2007 to 2015, was succeeded by Wike, who served two terms before becoming FCT Minister.

Their rivalry has been fueled by disagreements over resource control and dominance in Rivers State politics.
