Arsenal have ignited their summer transfer window with a stunning £5 million deal to sign Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, as confirmed by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

The Gunners triggered the Spaniard’s release clause, with all agreements finalized, including with Kepa’s representatives.

The 30-year-old, once the world’s priciest goalkeeper at £72 million, is set to join Arsenal as a backup to David Raya, bolstering Mikel Arteta’s squad depth for the 2025/26 campaign.

Kepa, who spent last season on loan at Bournemouth, brings a wealth of experience, having won four major trophies during his 163 appearances for Chelsea, plus stints at Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao.

His arrival follows Arsenal’s decision to pass on a permanent deal for loanee Neto, with Kepa expected to compete with Raya for the No. 1 spot. The move also signals a potential exit for young goalkeeper Karl Hein, who may seek opportunities elsewhere.

This transfer marks Arsenal’s second coup this week, following the imminent announcement of Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi. Arteta’s proactive approach underscores the club’s ambition to challenge for the Premier League title, with Kepa’s signing hailed as a “quietly clever” bargain by fans on X. Despite some, like former Chelsea star William Gallas, labeling it a “strange” move, the £5 million fee is seen as a low-risk addition of proven quality.

As Arsenal gear up for a demanding season, Kepa’s experience and Arteta’s vision could prove pivotal. The Gunners’ faithful await further signings, with a striker next on the agenda.
