Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has commended Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke for proceeding with the local government election despite warnings from the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and the Nigeria Police Force.

The AGF, Lateef Fagbemi, had cautioned Governor Adeleke against conducting the election, citing a recent court judgment that reinstated chairmen elected in 2022 under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.

Similarly, the Nigeria Police Force called for the suspension of the exercise, citing potential unrest due to disagreements between political parties.

Despite these concerns, Governor Adeleke cast his ballot at Unit 9, Ward 2, in Ede North Local Government Area.

Atiku, in a post on his official Facebook page, urged for a peaceful and hitch-free exercise, emphasizing the importance of local council elections in a democratic system.

He also commended Governor Adeleke for proceeding with the exercise and urged security agencies and polling officials to perform their duties responsibly.
