ABUJA, NIGERIA – The Federal Government has launched the National Business Development Service Provider (BDSP) Certification and Accreditation Program, a major step toward improving support for Nigeria’s Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The program, implemented by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN), is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda on industrialization.
Minister of State for Industry, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, Senator John Owan Enoh, who announced the development via his official social media handle, said the initiative aims to build the capacity and credibility of service providers offering technical and advisory support to MSMEs across the country.
“MSMEs are the lifeblood of our economy,” Enoh stated. “They require not only access to capital, but also structured guidance, mentorship, and technical support to grow sustainably.”

He described the BDSP program as “a significant stride in institutionalizing quality service delivery” and ensuring Nigerian entrepreneurs receive professional and standardized business development services.
Enoh added that the ministry would work to strengthen regulatory frameworks, extend services to underserved regions, and foster partnerships to boost skill acquisition nationwide.
“I commend the newly accredited BDSPs for their dedication to excellence and integrity,” he said. “They must carry this responsibility with purpose.”
Truth Live News reports that the program is expected to play a critical role in helping small businesses scale, formalize operations, and contribute more significantly to the national economy.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, MSMEs currently make up over 80% of employment in Nigeria.
