NIGERIA, ABUJA –  The Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment has pledged stronger support for Nigeria’s dairy industry, following a meeting with members of the Commercial Dairy Ranchers Association of Nigeria (CODARAN) in Abuja on Thursday.

During the courtesy visit, CODARAN representatives highlighted key issues affecting the sector, including a widening gap between local milk production and national demand, increasing tax burdens, infrastructural deficiencies, and logistical constraints.

The association also raised concerns over the proposed reclassification of the dairy sector from agriculture to manufacturing, warning that such a shift could raise production costs and discourage investment.

“These concerns reflect broader systemic challenges that affect multiple sectors,” said Senator John Owan Enoh, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment.

“We commend CODARAN for its proactive engagement and constructive advocacy for a sustainable dairy industry.”

Senator Enoh assured the association that the Ministry, through the Industrial Revolution Work Group (IRWG), is actively collaborating with relevant agencies to address these challenges.

“The IRWG will take into account the unique characteristics of the dairy sector,” he said, encouraging CODARAN to submit detailed, data-driven proposals to strengthen their case and guide targeted interventions.

The Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting local production, reducing import dependency, and promoting structured farming practices.

“We are open to continued dialogue with CODARAN and other stakeholders to develop practical, market-sensitive solutions that safeguard the sector’s future,” Enoh said.

“Our goal is a resilient and self-sufficient dairy industry that creates jobs, ensures food security, and drives inclusive economic growth,” he added.
