Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has stated that nothing is wrong with the Bimodal Voters’Accreditation System, BIVAS, or other technologies deployed by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, but that human elements have compromised its function thereby bringing about ongoing election controversies.
Saraki made this comment at his Ilorin home after voting on Saturday while expressing satisfaction at smooth start of the process for the governorship and state assembly elections in Kwara state.
Asked to comment on the technological failures of the voting process, Tinubu said, “I don’t think that the problem is in the technology per se.
” I have seen some off-season elections like in Osun State.
” We can not rule out the fact that it was intentionally made not to work.
“But let us see how this one goes. If it works then we will ask why it didn’t work on Saturday February 25,” he said.
Speaking on the process so far in Ilorin, he admitted that unlike the previous exercise three weeks ago, election started early.
“So far the process started early and things have been peaceful.
“But the voters turnout have been low.
“Many reasons can be adduced to it.
“Personally, I think people have been disappointed in INEC on the last election.
” But in this election, it is too early in the day to start making a conclusion.
“The real test comes later in the day when the election is over and the collation is on.
“We hope that this time around INEC has learnt it’s lessons from the last exercise and the damage it has done to the image of our country.
“We hope that they upload results and transmitted as soon as they made as they have promised,” he said.
