CALABAR, BOKI  – The Cross River State Government has condemned renewed communal violence between Boje and Iso-Bendeghe communities in Boki LGA, describing it as a tragic setback to peace efforts.

Governor Bassey Edet Otu, through a statement by Information Commissioner Erasmus Ekpang, expressed sadness over the violence, which erupted despite ongoing dialogue mediated by security agencies and traditional leaders.

“The government had made spirited efforts to resolve the land dispute amicably. It is disheartening to witness this level of violence,” the statement read.

Security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Police, and DSS, have been directed to intensify deployment to prevent further bloodshed and restore law and order in the affected areas.

The clashes, coming days before a peace report was to be submitted, threaten social cohesion and economic stability in the Boki region, known for its agricultural potential.

Governor Otu urged youths in both communities to resist incitement and “give peace a chance,” warning that those frustrating peace initiatives would face legal consequences.

“No community can access development or progress in an atmosphere of violence,” the governor’s office emphasized, calling for immediate return to dialogue.

Observers fear the escalation could weaken investor confidence and derail ongoing rural development plans in the region if not swiftly contained.
