Borno State has emerged as the state with the highest number of online voter pre-registrations in Nigeria, according to new figures released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Data from INEC’s Week Nine update shows that out of more than 8 million Nigerians who have completed the online pre-registration process, Borno recorded 826,130 entries, the highest figure in the country.

Osun State followed with 646,580, while Lagos came third with 604,819. Other states with high registration numbers include Kebbi (581,135), Kaduna (510,490), Ogun (510,062), and Kano (421,941).

At the lower end, Enugu (25,541), Ondo (17,618), Ebonyi (13,979), Edo (11,570), and Abia (11,221) recorded the fewest registrations nationwide.

INEC also reported that 1.7 million voters have completed their Continuous Voter Registration (CVR), combining both online pre-registrations (956,566) and physical registrations (753,884) as of Week Eight.

The commission reiterated that registration in Anambra State remains suspended until after the November 8, 2025 governorship election, in line with the Electoral Act 2022.

Until recently, southern states such as Osun, Lagos, and Ogun had led in voter registration figures. However, recent data shows a sharp rise in participation from northern states, particularly Borno and Kebbi, driven by community-based campaigns and public awareness initiatives.

INEC noted that religious leaders, youth groups, and local officials in the North have been instrumental in encouraging more eligible citizens to register ahead of the coming elections.

The commission said it expects registration numbers to continue rising as more Nigerians take advantage of the online platform before the exercise ends.
