Residents in the upscale Maitama area of Abuja are alarmed as reports emerge of an apparent explosion near a dump site. According to tweets shared via X on Wednesday, locals believe the sound originated from the nearby refuse area.
Truth Live News gathered that two men suffered injuries of varying severity. Passersby suggest the explosion may have been unintentional, considering its occurrence at a waste disposal site.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency confirmed the incident amid speculation on social media that it was a bomb blast.
FEMA’s Head Public Affairs, Nkechi Isa said, “Yes, there was an explosion. No casualties FEMA was there. The FCT police are looking into it. It occurred at a dump site.”
The incident was said to be caused by overheated metal.
The incident raises concerns among residents, prompting increased attention to the situation and the potential risks associated with such events in the heart of Abuja.
