Fenerbahçe has abruptly sacked manager José Mourinho after failing to qualify for the Champions League group stages, the club confirmed.
The decision follows a 1-0 aggregate loss to Benfica in the play-off round, marking another early European exit for the Turkish giants.
Mourinho, who joined in June 2024, led Fenerbahçe to a runner-up finish in the Süper Lig last season but clashed with the board over transfers and publicly criticized refereeing standards.
The club announced: “Our Professional Football First Team’s technical director, Jose Mourinho, has parted ways with us. We thank him for his efforts and wish him success in his future career.”
With Fenerbahçe seventh in the league, speculation swirls about Mourinho’s next move, with some eyeing a Premier League return.
The club now shifts focus to the Europa League and domestic title race.
