Nigeria has been thrown into mourning following the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who passed away this afternoon at a private clinic in London. He was 83.
The family of the late statesman confirmed his passing in a brief statement, saying, “With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and former President, Muhammadu Buhari. He died peacefully today, surrounded by close family members.”
Born in 1942 in Daura, Katsina State, Muhammadu Buhari served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1983 to 1985 and later as a democratically elected President from 2015 to 2023. Known for his staunch stance on anti-corruption and discipline, Buhari’s legacy remains a subject of national debate—praised by some for restoring stability in governance and criticized by others for his handling of economic and security challenges.

May his soul rest in peas. May ALLAH give the family and the Nigerians the fortitude to bear the loss.
