Dr. Doyin Okupe, a former Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has passed away at the age of 72.
His death was confirmed on Friday by Truth Live News, marking the end of a decades-long career in Nigerian politics and public service.
Okupe, a medical doctor, reportedly died in the early hours of the morning. His family and close associates are yet to release an official statement on the cause of death.
Renowned for his articulate defense of government policies during Jonathan’s administration, Okupe also served as a key figure in former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s government. In recent years, he played a crucial role in the Labour Party’s presidential campaign during the 2023 general elections, briefly serving as the Director-General of Peter Obi’s campaign before stepping down.
