Senator Suleiman Kawu Sumaila, representing Kano South Senatorial District, has officially defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
His defection was formally announced during Wednesday’s plenary session, following the reading of his letter by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
In his letter, Senator Sumaila cited “irreconcilable differences” within the NNPP and a desire to align with a party that shares his developmental agenda for Kano South as reasons for his defection. The announcement drew reactions from both sides of the chamber, with APC senators welcoming him into the fold, while NNPP lawmakers remained visibly silent.
