UYO, NIGERIA – The Akwa Ibom State Government has inaugurated an ad hoc committee on drainage and canal desilting.
Governor Umo Bassey Eno, approved the committee to support his administration’s ARISE Agenda on environmental safety.
Professor Eno James Ibanga, Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, chairs the six-member team.
“The governor is determined to prevent flooding ahead of the rainy season,” said Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah.

Rt. Hon. Nsikak Okon Ekong and Hon. Princess Emem Ibanga were named as members of the committee.
Others include Prince Akpan Ikim, Engr. Uwem Okoko, and Engr. Charles Okorie, who will serve as secretary.
“This is not politics. It’s about safety and timely intervention,” said a source close to the Ministry of Environment.
The appointments took immediate effect, according to the government’s official statement dated May 23, 2025.
Uwah added, “We congratulate the appointees and trust they will deliver results quickly and efficiently.”
