A former governor of Jigawa State and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Sule Lamido, has called on former party leaders who defected to other political parties to return, stressing that unity is key for the PDP to reclaim power in 2027.

Speaking at a gathering of PDP members in Bamaina, his hometown in Birninkudu Local Government Area, Lamido insisted that opposition parties cannot defeat President Bola Tinubu through emotions or anger alone.

“You cannot succeed in fighting Tinubu by emotion, anger, or revenge. It is better for all opposition leaders to return to the PDP and strengthen the party,” he said.

Lamido noted that many politicians currently in other parties originally rose to prominence within the PDP, including former governors Nasir El-Rufai, Peter Obi, and Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.

He urged them to reunite with the party’s leadership, including former presidents and vice presidents, to help Nigeria navigate its current challenges.

“Come back to your home. There is no shame in returning. Together, we provided good governance between 1999 and 2015. The country is in difficulty, and we must look for a way forward,” he added.

The former governor argued that Nigeria was better off under PDP rule, emphasizing that the current administration has failed to improve the country’s economic and social conditions.

“Remove PDP from Nigerian history since 1999, and there is no Nigeria. All those parading as former governors, ministers, and parliamentarians are products of PDP. They should come back home,” Lamido stated.

He commended PDP members and legislators for their dedication to the party and their commitment to the welfare of ordinary Nigerians.
